I have heard some describe a chick flick as a film in which the prominent characters are women and involves intense female bonding. I have also heard chick flicks referenced as dramas with strong emotional elements usually concluding with most of the audience in tears. Still others describe chick flicks as romantic movies whether dramas or comedies. Finally, I have heard chick flicks described as movies with strong female leads as role models that other women wish to emulate. I tend to fall in the final camp and feel a good chick flick is about empowerment, in which a female lead exhibits strong character traits and overcome large odds to succeed in her goal.
